Universities and innovation

LERU members are at the forefront of innovation. Leading technology transfer offices, support through all stages of the commercialisation process, entrepreneurship courses, incubators, financial support and extensive collaboration with industry account, amongst many other activities, account for the outstanding contribution that the LERU universities make to innovation in Europe.

The depth of innovation expertise within the LERU members is also the basis on which LERU engages with EU innovation policy.

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology

LERU is an active contributor to both the activities and the policy development of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Many LERU members are extensively engaged in the various Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) of the Institute while LERU provides thorough advice on the future of the EIT.

The European Innovation Council

Since Commissioner Moedas announced the creation of a European Innovation Council (EIC), LERU has been a prominent voice in the discussions about the role and shape that such a Council should have.
