Prof. Herman Vanden Berghe, LERU’s first Secretary-General, passed away

24 January 2017

Prof. Herman Vanden Berghe, LERU’s first Secretary-General and Honorary Vice Rector at the KU Leuven, died on 23 January 2017. Herman was Secretary-General of LERU from 2003 until 2005 and one of the founding fathers of the organisation.

Among his numerous other lasting accomplishments are his founding the Centre for Human Genetics at the KU Leuven in 1966 and starting up the Research Coordination Office in 1986. A man of vision and passion for science and all things human, as well as a world renowned scholar and pioneer in the field of human genetics, we are deeply saddened by this loss but cherish the memories of his intellect, wit and charisma. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.
