Launch event - Towards an effective 8th Framework Programme for Research

08 June 2010

On 7 June 2010, the League of European Research Universities presented its new advice paper ‘Towards an effective 8th Framework Programme for Research’, in the Neth-ER House in Brussels.

The paper deals with the next Framework Programme (FP8) project and how it should be developed. If Europe wants to remain competitive and meet the ambitious targets of the new Europe 2020 strategy, the EU needs to significantly increase its investment in research. As research-intensive universities play a crucial role in knowledge creation, research and innovation, it is more than ever, important that the EU guarantees enough funding for a broad spectrum of excellent research in universities. The Framework Programme is one of the best tools through which the EU can stimulate and support research.

Dr. Stijn Delauré, EU research policy advisor at the K.U.Leuven and main author of the paper, presented the recommendations.
These were followed by responses from Prof. Michael Wilson (University College London), Mrs. Clara de la Torre (European Commission, DG Research) and Mrs. Maria Da Graça Carvalho (European Parliament).

After the presentation and responses, there was time for questions from the audience.

The paper is available on the publications' page.
