The Policy Committee (PC) deals with various aspects of policy matters of importance to Europe’s research-intensive universities and elucidates the role universities play in the knowledge economy. The PC functions as a general policy development and advisory body across a broad front of LERU activity. It reports to the Rectors’ Assembly. Its remit includes making sure that policy views being developed in LERU remain in line with the League’s main principles and are acceptable to LERU universities. Thus the PC serves as a policy sounding board providing and responding to ideas and advice based on experience from the universities.
It also discusses EU research and innovation policy. The PC also acts as a review board for LERU policy papers and may itself draft or commission them. LERU position papers produced by the Committee have tackled such issues as Universities and Innovation and the future of the European Research Area.
