League of European Research Universities

Research seminars

In the last couple of years there is an obvious increase in attention for the so called ‘Grand Societal Challenges’, such as climate change, ageing and energy. European policy makers see a clear role for EU funded research in trying to find a solution for these ‘Grand Challenges’. More and more EU research programmes and initiatives have a link with them. Both the Joint Programming Initiatives and the European Innovation Partnerships focus on these Grand Challenges.

The idea was launched to organise research seminars on the different topics of the JPIs and EIPs for researchers at the interested member universities, to exchange ideas that can contribute to a strategic research agenda for these JPIs and EIPs.

Please note that these are closed events. Participation is by invitation only.

JPIs and EIPs are being developed on the following societal challenges:

JPIs

  • Cultural heritage and global change
  • Urban Europe – global challenges – local solutions
  • Healthy diet for a healthy life
  • Water challenges for a changing world (link with EIP Water-Efficient Europe)

EIPs

  • Active and healthy ageing
  • Agricultural productivity and sustainability
  • Smart cities
  • Sustainable supply of non-energy raw materials for a modern society
  • Smart mobility for Europe’s citizens and businesses
